Raisa Velez-GonzalezWilson Commencement High School
With a demanding schedule, Raisa always makes an effort to serve her community. She has put in several volunteer hours with Teachers of Tomorrow and her church’s youth group, where she participates in neighborhood projects to help those in need. One of Raisa’s highlighted community involvements has been with Action for a Better Community. Through this organization, she created a visual representation of her community’s environment and presented ways in which they could solve its’ troubles. Raisa strives to use her cultural background as a way to connect with those in her area who may be struggling.

One interesting fact about Raisa: “One interesting fact about me is that Is that I’ve been working since a young age and always tried to be independent.”
Attending school in fall 2021: “This fall I plan to attend Monroe Community College. I intend to major in nursing.”
How do you plan to use your scholarship funds? “I plan on using my scholarship money on books and any necessary materials need in college.”
What parts of high school are you most proud of? “Some of the best experiences I had in high school was before COVID, where I was new at Wilson Magnet High School and was able to interact with new peers that have helped build my portfolio in my new environment.”
What Raisa is most looking forward to in her college career: “In my college career I’m looking forward to new environments, new knowledge and great experience. I plan on growing love in the nursing field.”
